Several new arrivals this week: Carl brought in a little kestrel that had a wound of unknown origin. She is being treated by our crack Med Services team.
A call came in last week that took me to the industrial area just south of the Phoenix Airport where I found a Great Blue Heron between two buildings in a very congested area, with no water for miles around. He appeared to have two breaks in one of his long legs that were beginning to heal on their own, but he was extremely emaciated and unable to fly due to his weakened condition.
Hogan, the Great Horned Owl that has been with us for almost 22 years, is again gearing up for the foster season. She looks a little like a chicken sitting on her infertile egg as she awaits the arrival of our first orphans of the year.
